My students took the NWEA test this week and I had one student almost in tears over the types of questions she was getting. Now that it's all over and she absolutely crushed the test, we can make light of the situation. Poor girl though! I have already shared this with my cooworkers who experience this with their students at any grade level. We all sympathize with our students who basically see questions that seem to them like foreign languages and that's a sign that they are doing well on the test. 😒

This is fantastic! I can completely agree with this because I still have some first graders who see new material because they are testing so high and they get completely discouraged. It's so hard for some of mine to realize that when they see problems that are really hard that means they are doing really well.
ReplyDeleteSeen this too many times and I'm apart of the state testing machine and it scares me. I understand that data drives instruction, but I think we are going over board with all these assessments. I hope things start to improve in the near future!
